Uniden goes walkie talkie on the new 77-channel UHF-CB network

Following its introduction of Australia’s first 77 channel-ready UHF-CB radios, Uniden has today launched a series of handheld radios compatible with the new narrowband network.

The Australian Government will soon restructure the UHF-CB radio network, adding 37 new channels to the existing 40 channel network. The existing 40 channels will continue to operate at their current frequencies, but the width of each channel will be reduced from 25kHz (Wideband) width to 12.5kHz (Narrowband) width to allow for the additional channels*.

Initially introducing six new handheld models into the 77 Channel-Ready Radio Series, Uniden UHF CB users can access the extra channels as soon as the upgraded network is rolled out. The changeover is simple and can be completed by radio users at home. Importantly, Uniden’s handheld radios remain compatible with the current 40 channel radios, allowing for trouble-free communication between newer and existing radios. With more channels to choose from there will be less network congestion, allowing for faster and easier selection of a clear channel.

According to Brad Hales, Senior National Marketing Executive, Uniden Australia, the launch of the handheld series will extend the benefits of the new UHF-CB network to other groups of radio users.

“Traditionally, when we think of UHF-CB radio users we identify motorists of 4WDs and trucks, but there are many other applications. Each of our new 77-channel ready handheld radios is suited to particular groups of radio users. For example farmers, tradesmen and construction workers will appreciate the durability of our more heavy-duty radios such as the 5 Watt UH076SX, while hikers, hospitality staff and event workers are looking for a more compact lightweight option such as the 2 Watt UH720SX.”

Built specifically for Australian and New Zealand conditions, Uniden handheld radios have been tested to withstand the hottest summer temperatures and are shock resistant for high performance across rugged terrain. All models include backlit LCD and keypad, five calling tones, roger beep, as well as Group Scan and Open Scan functions.

Uniden introduces Australia’s first 77 Channel-Ready UHF CB radios

As the government restructures Australia’s UHF-CB radio network, increasing its capacity from 40 to 77 channels, Uniden’s new Mini Compact Mobile UHF-CB Radio Series is the first ready for the changeover.

In April or May 2011, 37 new channels will be added to the existing 40 channel network. The existing 40 channels will continue to operate at their current frequencies, but the width of each channel will be reduced from 25kHz (Wideband) width to 12.5kHz (Narrowband) width to allow for the additional channels*.

With Uniden’s new Mini Compact Mobile UHF-CB Radio Series, users will be ready to access the extra channels as soon as the network is rolled out. Importantly, these radios remain compatible with the current 40 channel radios, allowing for trouble-free communication between newer and older radios. With more channels to choose from there will be less network congestion, allowing for faster and easier selection of a clear channel.

Partnering the latest technology with great useability, the compact size of the Uniden UHF-CB Mini Compact Radio Series ensures it takes up minimal space and is able to be mounted anywhere - the console, dashboard, cabin roof and even under the seat. This makes it ideal for communicating in cars, four-wheel drives and caravans, as well as for commercial applications including use in trucks and farming equipment. Built specifically for Australian and New Zealand conditions, all radios in the new range have been tested to withstand the hottest Australian temperatures and are shock resistant for high performance across rugged terrain.

Complete with a large seven colour backlit LCD and keypad to match your vehicle dash-light colour, as well as a Flip LCD feature that allows users to flip the display for optional reverse mounting, the Uniden UHF-CB Mini Compact Radio provides the most clear to read and easy to operate system regardless of where the unit is mounted in the vehicle.

With a powerful range of up to 18 kilometres, Uniden UHF-CB radios enable crystal clear communication between units using a UHF radio wave**. Unlike mobile phones, UHF radios do not rely on transmission towers so they can operate even in the most remote locations.

Other features include:
-
Five calling tones
- Roger Beep
-
Under and Over Voltage Alert
-
One touch instant channel recalling
-
Group Scan with Priority Channel Watch function to allow users to select the channels they wish to listen to in a group.
-
Open Scan function to scan all the channels in memory and lock onto active channels

All radios in the new Uniden UHF CB Mini Compact range include a three year warranty.

* For more information see media backgrounder. Information on how to upgrade the new models to 77 channels will be released on the Uniden website and Uniden distributor websites once the ACMA Standard is published.
** Range may vary depending on environmental and / or topographical conditions.
